On arrival (any time between 11.30 and 12.10) a hot drink of offered and as more people arrive the building begins to fill with good humoured chat.
A two course meal is then served. The aim of the volunteers is to provide a healthy, balanced and nutritious meal based on requests and preferences of the group members. Water is served with the meal and a second hot drink is offered to finish. People generally leave by 1.30 to 1.45. The food is bought on the day and prepared on site in the well designed kitchen with its 5 star food hygiene rating.
The volunteers aim to provide a relaxed, friendly environment for older people to meet and enjoy each other’s company as well as enjoy a hot, tasty meal.
All members pay £3.50 for their meal and weekly accounts are kept. For special occasions such as Christmas and Easter we splash out and use up any money that has built up to provide a more extravagant meal with a glass of wine.
I know I speak for all the volunteers by stating that we all thoroughly enjoy meeting with the everybody on a fortnightly basis. We are unable to offer a meal during school holidays due to family commitments.
If you or somebody you know would like to join us as a group member or a volunteer please phone Steve (0117 963571) or Jane (0117 9663030).
