St Aldhelm’s is staying open!

Regarding the future of St Aldhelm’s Church Building

Concerns regarding the future of St Aldhelm’s church building on Chessel Street have been circulating recently on social media and in the local magazine ‘The Pigeon’. The elected leadership team of St Aldhelm’s, (the DCC), has been researching sustainability and recently voted on its findings especially regarding finance and volunteers.

We are delighted to announce that the church is going to stay open as a Christian and community resource right in the heart of The Chessels. This is not to say that we wouldn’t benefit from closer collaboration with the neighbourhood to ensure the best long-term use of this large indoor space which inevitably requires considerable effort to maintain.

Community use is a big part of our vision for the building and hope that those groups currently using the building will continue to want to do so and look forward to welcoming others. We appreciate partnering with you to enjoy the building. If you would like to know more about how you might participate in plans to sustain the building do please do talk to us.

We are looking forward to this next stage in the life of our church, and hope that many others will join us in it.

With our best wishes

Revd Andrew Doarks, (Priest-in-Charge) & St Aldhelm’s District Church Council
